Todd Hunter

Todd Hunter | 2011 Sergeant, USMC

Sergeant Todd Hunter is a Military Motion Media student at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and is a Sergeant in the Marines.

Hunter enlisted in the Marine Corps, March 2005. He attended Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC. After Recruit Training, he attended the Basic Public Affairs Specialist-Writers course, and the Basic Public Affairs Specialist-Broadcasters course, at the Defense Information School, Fort Meade, MD.

In February 2006, Hunter reported for duty to Armed Forces Network, Okinawa, Japan. He was immediately assigned to the News section, where he produced television and radio news stories, and anchored the local newscast. In November 2006, he deployed to China to cover bilateral training with the first Marine Corps unit to visit the country since World War II. Hunter then deployed to Australia in June 2007 to cover Exercise Talisman Saber 2007.

He then extended his original two-year assignment in Okinawa to volunteer for a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan as an Individual Augmentee at AFN Afghanistan from October 2007 to April 2008. While there, Hunter re-enlisted for an additional four years of service. Upon returning to Okinawa, Hunter was assigned to the Radio section of AFN Okinawa where he produced over 100 radio shows, hosted various radio remotes, and was recognized as the 2008 USMC Combat Correspondent Association Radio Entertainment Program of the Year.

In February 2009, Hunter reported to Defense Media Activity-Marine Corps in Washington, D.C., where he served as the Non-Commissioned Officer-In-Charge and Production Chief of MarinesTV. He collected and produced stories in the National Capital Region, Florida, Chicago, and Alaska throughout 2009, distinguishing himself as the 2009 Marine Corps and Department of Defense Broadcast Journalist of the Year.

Hunter attended the Advanced Electronic Journalism Course at DINFOS in January 2010, and was selected to attend the Military Motion Media program at Syracuse University - where he earned a 3.85 GPA and made the Dean’s List at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications during the Fall 2010 semester.

His personal decorations include the Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, (2) Navy & Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals, and (7) Certificates of Commendation.
