John Nicholson | 2010 Faculty


John Nicholson is a Professor of Practice in Broadcast Journalism who has 40 years of local and network broadcasting experience. He has reported and anchored at television stations in markets including Tampa-St. Petersburg, Houston and New York and well as Syracuse and Jacksonville. His awards include a Florida Emmy for public service broadcasting, a NATPE award, and numerous local and state awards for investigative and general assignment reporting.

He has been an on-air host of event and magazine programming for ESPN since 1993. ESPN experience includes hosting and play-by-play and analysis on airplane racing, boat racing, the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, Spain and tennis on ESPN International. He currently hosts AKC Dog Shows on ESPN.

He has served as coordinating producer for documentary style DvDs including histories of University of Southern California football and Notre Dame football for Warner Home Video.

In addition he hosts live postgame coverage of SU home football and basketball games on Orange All-Access.

Nicholson is a 1968 graduate of the School of Speech and Dramatic Arts at S.U. with a major in Television and Radio. He became a Visiting Professor in 1999 after a number of years as an Adjunct Professor. He teaches Discovering the News, Broadcast News Writing, Television News Reporting and Sports Reporting.

Nicholson is the father of five. He and his wife Susan live in North Syracuse.
