Dona Hayes | 2010 Faculty


Professor Hayes has been at Newhouse since 1985 and has taught all of the television journalism courses offered by the department at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Before joining the Newhouse faculty, Professor Hayes was a reporter and anchor at WIXT-TV (ABC affiliate) in Syracuse. She also worked in public television as a producer of long-format public affairs programs and documentaries. She is the recipient of national, state and local awards for her reporting, including a five-part series on children with Down's Syndrome and a series of reports on battered women.

Professor Hayes is a co-author of The Media and Disasters: Pan Am 103 and Journalism and the Aging Population: Covering the Story. She has been published in American Behavioral Scientist and Journalism Educator. She has a keen interest in how local news is reported.
