Derek Sanchez | 2010 Navy

Derek R. Sanchez is a student in the Military Motion Media program at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.

Sanchez is a well-traveled young man leaving footprints in more than a dozen different countries around the world.  When asked his favorite place, he said it was the Federated States of Micronesia, home to white sand beaches, warm bath-like ocean water, and jungles with exotic wildlife.  Most of his travels came from arduous deployments aboard U.S. Navy vessels.  Although he hasn’t won many awards, he should be recognized more often.

Although Sanchez tends to stay pretty active outside the military with triathlons, marathons, and overall fitness, he always makes time for and truly enjoys heaving around lines one and two, “dipping the eye,” “standing by” for evening prayer, and most of all cleaning stations sounded with “sweepers, sweepers man your brooms, give the ship a thorough sweep down forward to aft.”

Sanchez’s place of nativity originally exists in Joplin, Mo., but he really claims his home to be the land of enchantment, Albuquerque, N.M.

If you are truly interested in Sanchez’s work and would like to see more you must first join a secret society of imps…just kidding.  You may log onto www.navy.mil, www.vimeo.com, or the new Syracuse Military program website.
