Daniel Barker is a Military Photojournalism student at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and is a Mass Communications Specialist 2nd Class in the Navy. Barker has been working predominately with digital photography and multimedia for the past five years. MC2 Barker first began photographic work for the military at Fort Meade, MD on assignment as a photographer for the Defense Information School, documenting events and graduations for their website and digital news in 2005. After transferring to San Diego, CA he continued documenting history both in the area and internationally during deployments among many ships worldwide. MC2 Barker's images have been featured on CNN, Wall Street Journal, Agense-France Presse, Getty Images and in numerous print and online media globally. His images have won many recognitions including by the Walter L. Richardson Navy Photographer of the Year competition and the Military Photographer of the Year competition.


Assignments Include:

Pearl Harbor, HI- Covered the 65th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor

Dubla Char, Bangladesh- Covered relief efforts following Tropical Cyclone Sidr

Karachi, Pakistan- Covered the land and sea multi-national naval exercise AMAN

Somalia- Extensively covered a rescue at sea of 57 Somali refugees off the coast

Iraq- Covered operational turnover of the Khawr Al Ambra Oil Terminal to Iraq

Haiti- Covered humanitarian disaster relief efforts following the 2010 earthquake
